Toads are a very beneficial method of insect control in your garden. They thrive on insects and can eat thousands of them. They are a great alternative to the use of pesticides. Creating the right environment will encourage toads to come into your garden. You never want to remove a toad from it's natural habitat and place it in your garden. They will move in by themselves if the environment is what they are use too.

A toad is an amphibious creature. This means they live both on land and in the water. Water and moisture are a very important part of there life. Installing a small shallow pond in your garden to supply them with the water they need will greatly help attract them to your garden.

The one thing that is very important that a toad needs is to have access to moisture at all times, especially in the summer months. A toad can smell moisture and when they need to cool down they will burrow into the moist earth to protect there body. Another thing that is important is that they have a natural environment around the pond for shade and shelter. Rocks, logs and plants are all part of creating the right environment for a toad to seek refuge in a cool, moist and shaded area.

You can also get creative and build your own toad houses for them to take shelter in by digging a small hole in the ground and shading it with a board, log, rock or even an old plant container. You can also make toad houses from clay pots by turning them over and cutting a small opening in the side for them to have access.

Having toads in your garden is a great alternative to the use of pesticides and allot healthier for both you and the environment.
